United Airlines, N24976, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

United Airlines has announced an order for 110 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing as part of its strategy to continue building.

Included in the deal are 50 Boeing 787s and 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft. Building upon already existing commitments to the series the company has.

With deliveries slated to commence from 2028 onwards for the aircraft, United is adding substantial flexibility for the long-term future fleet.

The 50 Boeing 787s come from previous options and purchase rights that have now been converted into firm orders, and these 787s will arrive between 2028 and 2031. Additionally, up to 50 more 787 options have been secured for the decade’s end.

Meanwhile, the 60 Airbus A321neos are slated for delivery between 2028 and 2030. In addition, it has secured up to 40 new options for the series.

Staggeringly, the airline believes it’ll take delivery of 800 new aircraft between 2023 and 2032, part of a massive ramp-up and renewal in its fleet.

United Airlines wants to look towards operating larger planes with more seats on routes. United has a substantial market share and runs out of some of the largest markets in the country. Thus, ordering new higher-capacity planes becomes essential for domestic and international operations.
