SLA Launches Air Traffic Control Training Course for Bhutanese Students Sri Lanka Airport and Aviation Academy (SLA) launched an Air Traffic Control Training specializing in Aerodrome Control for Air Traffic Controllers for Bhutan. SLAAA being a full member of the TRAINAIR PLUS structure, which is the International Civil Aviation Organization’s accreditation for conducting Aviation training, inaugurated the first International Air Traffic Control training Course after being rebranded as an Academy on 3rd June 2024 for a group of 6 Air Traffic controllers from Bhutan. The SLAAA, including the Air Traffic Services Wing, is also a Certified Aviation Training Organization having fulfilled the regulatory obligations of the ICAO and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka. SLAAA has a state-of-the-art Simulator facility that gives the students a real-life scenario of the Controlling environment which enables the ATC students, once obtain the training to seamlessly integrate into Air traffic Control tower duties. Out of several such organizations in South Asia, the Department of Air Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bhutan chose SLA as the best institute to train their air traffic controllers, taking into account the organization's credentials, including the infrastructure and the highly experienced resource personnel. The three-and-a-half months of training will provide SLA the strategic opportunity to establish itself as a specialized aviation academy offering training in all aspects of aviation. AASL which is the parent company of SLAAA, is proud to be of assistance to a fellow SAARC country in providing this vital training component in Air Traffic Control, thus ensuring safe skies within the region and beyond.
